Diagnostic Examination
On the first visit, a diagnostic examination is performed to evaluate the current problem with attention to its physical, medical, developmental, emotional, educational, family, peer, and social components. The diagnosis and “diagnostic formulation” are shared with the patient and/or guardian. Dr. Atwal can evaluate for various disorders including but not limited to mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.

Treatment Plan
Dr. Atwal will design a treatment plan which considers all the components discussed during the diagnostic examination and will review these recommendations with the patient and/or guardian. Treatment may include medication and brief supportive psychotherapy in addition to recommendations for environmental changes or behavioral techniques to improve the current situation.
Maintenance
Patients are followed at regular intervals to assess progress and for areas in need of attention. If prescribed, medications are regularly reviewed and evaluated for effectiveness and necessity. In certain circumstances, laboratory tests are ordered and reviewed. Often, comprehensive care will require collaboration with the patient’s other treatment providers.
